Press Conference

On January 15, 2015 a press conference took place in Nicosia to inform the public for the objectives and activities of this project. The general director of INEK-PEO and coordinator of the project, Pavlos Kalosinatos made an initial statement introducing the project and describing its aims and main activities. Pavlos Kalosinatos suggested that “Social actors are of strategic importance for the solution of the Cyprus problem, not only because their support to the process may generate wide acceptance and active participation for the implementation of a negotiated solution. Social actors” according to Pavlos Kalosinatos “may deliver with their expertise useful feedback that could assist the elaboration of essential provisions of the solution that are indispensable for the economic and social cohesion of the common future state and thus indispensable for the viability of the negotiated solution”. In this context, Pavlos Kalosinatos emphasized the importance of the project as it aims to mobilize social actors around the future solution of the Cyprus problem by providing space to them to intervene collectively (Turkish and Greek Cypriots together with one voice) and in an organised and co-ordinated manner (within the framework of a structured process) in the course of future negotiations. The coordinator described the activities included in the project in order to achieve this goal such as the production of a framework document, the formation of a social actors network and the convention of thematic conferences. Besides Pavlos Kalosinatos, Christos Tompazos and Koral Asam presented a speech as the representatives of PEO and DEV-IS respectively. Mr Tompazos noted that PEO will work so that this project will be one more step towards peace and reunification. Mr Asam said that social actors must have a say today for the future of our country and people giving priority to the social and economic issues and the interests of the people.
