Who We Are

The Cyprus Labour Institute (INEK-PEO) [ΙνστιτούτοΕργασίαςΚύπρου] is a research, documentation and training centre operating on a professional and scientific basis and has its own legal standing. It was founded in 2002 in accordance with the Law 57/72 of Cyprus. It is a non-profit-making foundation. The research agenda of the Institute covers economic, social and labour issues and it provides training programmes for trade unionists as well as for working people.

 

The Federation of Revolutionary Workers Trade Unions (DEV-İŞ) [Devrimci İşçi Sendikaları Federasyonu] DEV-İŞ is a workers trade union federation, founded in 1976. DEV-İŞ is organizing workers in various branches of the private sector and municipalities. It’s a signatory party of 17 collective agreements covering around 1200 members, employed mainly in banks, cement production, citrus fruit industry, petrol downstream and municipalities. DEV-IŞ employees at present six full time employees. DEV-İŞ, as a committed supporter of a peaceful and viable solution of the Cyprus problem. In the last 10 years is implementing together with PEO an annual bi-communal activity programme. DEV-IŞ is also a co-founder organisation of the bicommunal “All Cyprus Trade Union Form”, aiming at promoting and facilitating cooperation and understanding between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot trade unions and workers.

 

The Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO) is the oldest and biggest trade union federation of Cyprus consisting of eight branch unions organising workers in private sector as well as in the public owned enterprises and the wage earners of the public sector. Member of the federation is also the Cyprus Pensioners Association (EKYSY). PEO is a well established and recognized partner of the tripartite social dialogue in the country. PEO is participating in the tripartite Labour Advisory Council. PEO’s branch unions have approximately 55 thousand members and are both by constitution as by practise open to all workers without any restriction. As a genuine workers federation PEO has excellent historical records in struggle for the understanding of the two main communities in Cyprus (Greek and Turkish Cypriot) and is actively engaged in rapprochement activities. PEO and its branch unions have around 150 permanent employees.
